PE man in court for mowing down five dogs with his bakkie

The Port Elizabeth man who is accused of mowing down five dogs in Collen Glen on Sunday, has made his first court appearance.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said Zawuthini Patrick, appeared in the St Albans magistrate's court on Wednesday.

He has been charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Janse van Rensburg said the dogs were being walked by their owners, Gavin and Anne McLellan, when Patrick's bakkie allegedly veered off the road as it rounded a bend and mowed down the dogs, killing all five of them.

Patrick fled the scene but handed himself to Kabega Police on Monday where he was released on warning.

His case was remanded to the 23rd August.
