Police have opened an inquest docket after a man from Schauderville burned to death in a shack fire on Friday night.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says the 45 year old man and his friend heard children screaming for help, when they saw their house was on fire.
The two men managed to rescue the children and then started to carry out their personal belongings.
Labans says the man was trying to carry a couch out of the burning house when he was engulfed by the flames.
The children were alone at the time and it is not sure what caused the fire.
