The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Andre Swart has applauded the swift reaction of police members in apprehending a 20-year-old gang affiliate allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man and injuring of his 4-month-old son.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that shortly before 5 pm on Sunday, two suspects affiliated to the Hondekoppe gang were seen walking down Bibby Avenue in Bloemendal firing as they walked.
They entered the bedroom where 21-year-old Dillon Barnard and his 4-month-old son were sleeping and fired several shots at Barnard, fatally wounding him.
His young child miraculously survived with only a graze wound to the chest.
Colonel Naidu said members of the Visible Gang Intervention Team were in the area and reacted upon hearing the shots.
They cornered one fo the suspectes in nearby Bardien street and confiscated a .38 revolver.
The suspect will appear in court tomorrow on charges of murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm while the second suspect remains at large.
