PE lifeguards back on duty following strike

Municipal lifeguards in Nelson Mandela Bay have been paid their October and November salaries and are back at their posts.

The director of Beaches and Resorts Kithi Ngesi told AlgoaFM news this morning that the lifeguards had demanded time frames for the payments of their monies which had in fact been paid to them later on the day they walked off the job on Wednesday.

A group of 15 to 20 municipal life guards are employed by the municipality to man the Metro's Beaches - including Wells Estate, Blue Water Bay, Humewood, Hobie and Kings Beaches over the summer season.

They converged on the beach office on Wednesday morning and Ngesi immediately acknowledged that their had been a payment problem and that they would be remunerated as soon as possible.
