Port Elizabeth police dog Mufasa was called into action in the early hours of Sunday morning, ‘apprehending’ a suspect in dense bush near a block of flats in Central.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said K9 unit members responded to a complaint of a theft out of a motor vehicle parked outside a block of flats in Park Drive.
“The members then utilized their dogs, Mufasa and Bentley, to search the dark thicket behind an apartment building. Within minutes, Mufasa apprehended the suspect as he tried to jump over a wall,” Naidu said.
She said a handbag was discovered next to him in the bush where he was hiding which was identified by the complainant.
Police urged the public not to leave valuable items in view in their vehicles.
“The suspect was detained on a charge of theft out of a motor vehicle and will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday,” Naidu said.
