PE hijacking suspects nabbed

Port Elizabeth Flying Squad members arrested three suspects who allegedly hijacked a car from a motorist on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the complainant had stopped at a shop in Western Road when a man wearing a reflector jacket started assisting him.

“Two men then ran to the vehicle, pointed a firearm at him and he was ordered out the car. The ‘car guard’ removed his reflector jacket and got into the car and they drove off,” Naidu said.

She said on Sunday morning Flying Squad members who had received information about the hijacked vehicle spotted it in Chatty where a high-speed chase ensued.

Naidu said “in attempt to push the police vehicle off the road, in turn hit the barrier on the Uitenhage R75 and rolled several times before landing on its roof.”

All three suspects were arrested and a firearm reported stolen in Bredarsdorp in July was also recovered.

“They are detained on charges of vehicle hijacking and reckless and/or negligent driving. An additional charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition will be added to the 35 year old suspect,” Naidu said.

They are expected to appear in court soon.
