The Eastern Cape Gang Investigation Unit has secured a lengthy jail sentence for a gang affiliate who was jailed for 37 years in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court.
In August 2015, two women were walking in Aandblom Street in Arcadia when two men approached them to ask about men they were looking for. By this time they were standing in front of a well-known drug post in Reyners Street.
As the women replied in the negative, the suspects spotted the person they were looking for, police said at the time.
Jason Malusi, 18, was shot and killed and another man was injured in the shoulder. About 3 months after the incident, one of the witnesses in the case was killed in another gang-related shooting.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said a week after the murder Reneal Seagal, 21, of the Hondekoppe gang was arrested. Naidu said Seagal was sentenced on Wednesday to an effective 37 years imprisonment for murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
