Port Elizabeth police said a “32-year-old gang member” was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of an 18-year-old teenager in Gelvandale on New Year’s day last year.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said he was sentenced in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Tuesday.
She said Ruwaan Jordaan died in hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the back when Luwaan Munick opened fire on a group of people playing cards in Old Standford Road.
“The incident was gang-related,” Naidu said.
Munick was arrested later that same night in Leith Street in Helenvale.
Naidu said he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for the illegal possession of a firearm and two years for the illegal possession of ammunition.
"The sentences will run concurrently to the life sentence.”
