PE fraud suspect faces additional charge

File

The owner of a well-known Port Elizabeth restaurant has laid a charge against a man already in custody for allegedly defrauding a Millpark guest-house owner.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the charge was laid this week after it was alleged that 43-year-old fraud suspect, Daniel Olivier, had paid for a second take-away meal from the restaurant by making a fake EFT payment in the amount of R600.

He was arrested earlier and appeared in court last Friday after a guest-house owner laid charges when he allegedly also paid for his extended stay with a false EFT payment.

In an earlier statement, Naidu said Olivier and his 31-year-old fiancé had booked into the guest-house after paying for the first night via an online booking system.

She said the following day he requested to stay another four nights and allegedly produced a false EFT payment statement.

Naidu said when the money did not clear through the bank, the owner approached him and later laid a charge with the police.

Olivier was remanded in custody until next Monday when he is scheduled to make another court appearance.

Naidu said anyone who may have also fallen victim to "Olivier's scams" should contact D/W/O Whittal at SAPS Mount Road on 041 394 6245.
