A fireman from the Nelson Mandela Bay has become the latest person in the Metro to die as a result of Covid19.
Municipality spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki says all other firemen and staff at the Govan Mbeki fire station were tested and their results came back negative.
He says the fire station was closed while it was being cleaned and disinfected.
The Metro has meanwhile announced a new and heightened campaign to contain and slow down the rapid spread of Covid19.
Acting mayor, Tshonono Buyeye, says the roll-out comes as the number of positive cases in the Metro stands at over 500.
He says the Municipality's strategy was formulated in partnership with all role players and will focus on intensified screening and testing, accompanied by an aggressive, tactical, on the ground communication drive.
Buyeye says as part of their targetted approach, law enforcement officials will restrict the movement of the public to allow health officials to carry out their work.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit the Metro later this week.
