PE fire fighters were called in to action Monday to battle a veld fire which initially had threatened homes in the Walmer Heights area.
The fire came close to homes in Wymouth Place at the end of Beethoven Road in Walmer Heights, Port Elizabeth.
However, by late Monday afternoon the fire had been burning primarily on the property of the Walmer Country Club.
The entire area was shrouded in smoke but according to Walmer Country Club professional, Gary Packer, it was not as bad as it looked.
The Metro fire department brought the fire under control and were damping down on the golf course late in the afternoon.
