A group of disgruntled farmers gathered at the Rocklands police station outside Port Elizabeth on Thursday to voice their concern about ongoing crime, including stock theft, in the area.
The chairperson of the Van Stadens River agricultural society, Johan Rademeyer, told Algoa FM News that the police station is almost dysfunctional, and in urgent need of an upgrade.
"We got a problem in our area with stock theft and burglary. ... Problems we got is that there are not enough police vehicles in our area and the police station at Rocklands is not functional," he said.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, says the Rocklands satellite police station is staffed and resourced from the Kabega Park police station which recently had staffing challenges of its own.
Mills says police management has asked Kabega Park police management to look into the matter with a view to ensuring that the Rocklands satellite police station is properly resourced.
