Detectives in Kabega Park, Port Elizabeth, made a grim discovery on Monday morning when they found the bodies of an elderly couple in their house in Sherwood, Port Elizabeth.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a case of murder and an inquest have been opened after a 64-year-old man was found hanging in the garage of his home in the Everwood complex in Worthing Road in Sherwood.
The body of his 67-year-old wife was found lying in the back of his bakkie.
Captain van Rensburg says at around 7 am, a neighbour driving through the complex noticed a note on the window of the house.
He stopped and the contents of the note stated that whoever reads it must contact the police.
A member of the body corporate was notified and the police were contacted.
Captain Janse van Rensburg said the cause and time of the death of the woman will only be determined once a post-mortem is held.
Police found several notes at the scene.
The couple lived alone and their names are being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
