Two men have robbed a Port Elizabeth cyclist of his R170 000 mountain bike on the notorious Victoria Drive in Walmer.

Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the 46-year-old complainant was on his own when he was accosted shortly after 6am on Saturday.

The Theescombe resident told police he was cycling towards Marine Drive, Schoenmakerskop, when he saw two men jogging towards him.

He says they did not look suspicious as he thought they were out on an early morning jog.

However, as he rode past they pushed him off his bike and robbed him.

They made off with his red and black Specialized S-Works mountain bike valued at R170 000, a bicycle headlight valued at R2000, a Garmin watch worth R11 000 and a pair of cleated MTB riding shoes valued at R3000.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says the complainant only sustained grazed elbows due to the fall.

He walked bare foot to the Walmer Police Station to report the incident.

Captain Janse van Rensburg is appealing to the community to be on the look-out for anyone who may be trying to sell these stolen items and to immediately inform the police.
