Port Elizabeth police say maximum security will be deployed along the city's beachfront on Friday for the annual Opening of the Season, to ensure that everyone attending enjoys a crime free and safe opening event.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says revelers are warned to behave themselves, adding they would be arrested for contravention of any law or by-laws.
She says police and law enforcement agencies have their hands full every year, and had to attend to various crimes ranging from drunken behaviour, assaults and theft from motor vehicles.
Naidu says liquor is strictly prohibited on the city's beaches and those behaving unruly will be arrested and charged accordingly.
The South African Police Service is committed in ensuring that all people within the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan ARE and FEEL safe during this festive season . However, this can only be achieved if individuals and communities cooperate with the police by heeding to these proactive warnings.
