A Port Elizabeth policeman has been wounded in a shoot-out with an armed gang who robbed a spaza shop in Sanctor in the city's northern areas.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Alwin Labans, said the drama ended in Kwadwesi when the nine robbers crashed their Toyota Quantum into a wall following a chase by police Thursday afternoon.
He said four men jumped out of the vehicle and two of them who were armed, opened fire, wounding a policeman in the arm.
Labans said police fired back and managed to arrest four suspects.
He said five others managed to evade arrest.
Labans said the goods and cash stolen from the Ethiopian spaza shop owner were recovered.
The hunt for the remaining robbers continues while those arrested are due to appear in court soon.
