PE cop close to tears in murder trial of Angel, 12

PORT ELIZABETH, November 7 (ANA) –  A Port Elizabeth policeman was close to tears in the city's High Court on Tuesday, as he gave a harrowing account of the bloody scene where 12-year-old Aliya ‘Angel’ Tee was allegedly gunned down in cold blood by two known gangsters in June last year.

Nealon Redhouse, 18, and Deon Harmse, 24, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, housebreaking with intent to commit murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Their trial got underway on Tuesday.

Constable Quinton Gould was the first to respond to the crime scene at 235 Barberry Drive in Bethelsdorp where the alleged murder took place.

Redhouse’s home is situated next door to the Tee family home in the city’s northern areas.

Gould testified that when he arrived on the scene he saw Tee’s mother Candice, walking towards him in the yard crying and screaming hysterically.

Gould said they proceeded to the back door of the house where he found her husband Edmund lying wounded.

“When I wanted to open the door it was difficult. Mr Tee was laying behind the door. I could see that he was wounded. I tried to talk to him and he continuously said he was in pain and wanted to know where his daughter was,” Gould said.

Gould testified that Edmund Tee had informed him that “Nealon and Kwas” were the alleged shooters.

He said having been working in the area for quite some time he believed the pair were members of the Spotbouer Gang.

According to his testimony, Candice Tee took him to the bathroom where 'Angel' was found lying in a pool of blood.

“When I saw [Angel] I told Mrs Tee to sit in the dining room. I tried to calm her she was hysterical,” he said.

Gould became emotional during his testimony, telling the court that it was a traumatic experience.

“It was very traumatic seeing a young girl in a pool of blood. It was difficult to continue working.”

According to the State, Angel was killed on June 7 last year, when gunmen posing as cops forced their way into the Barberry Drive home in Bethelsdorp and opened fire.

She was a Grade 7 learner and perfect at Strelitzia Primary School.

The trial continues.
