A Port Elizabeth lawyer who was prohibited from practicing as an attorney in 2012 has been convicted of fraud in the city's Commercial Crimes Court.
Thobela Qampi, on Monday, pleaded guilty to 33 counts of fraud involving close on R800 000.
According to the plea statement Qampi admitted to providing legal and property services to clients when he did not have a fidelity fund certificate to do so.
He admitted that he had been interdicted and prohibited from practising as an attorney by order of the Eastern Cape High Court, Grahamstown in March 2012.
The case against Qampi was postponed to the 26th of February for sentencing.
According to the state prosecutor he also was convicted for theft last year.
