Well known PE general arms and ammunition dealer Arthur Webb and former SA Revenue Services official Petrus Meyer, have pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud and corruption in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.
According to the charge sheet, they're alleged to have colluded in the submission of fraudulent Vat refund returns, valued at more than R7 million.
The trial that got underway on Tuesday came to an abrupt halt when Magistrate Hannes Claasen said he would withdraw from the matter.
Claasen stated that he had recognised Meyer as a witness from another case and on that basis he did not feel comfortable adjudicating a case that could lead to an averse decision.
The case was postponed to May 18th next year for trial.
