PE: 188 arrests over Christmas weekend

 Members of the Mount Road policing cluster in Port Elizabeth arrested 188 people over the Christmas long weekend.

Police captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a substantial number of those arrested were for drunken driving.

Several people were arrested for assault and others for drug related offences.

Van Rensburg says those arrested for being drunk and disorderly were primarily in the Walmer Township area.

The majority of the suspects are expected to appear in court today.
