Police in Port Elizabeth are investigating a case of culpable homicide following an accident on the M4 Freeway early on Wednesday morning.
A police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the driver of a Toyota Etios was driving on the M4 near the Post office at about 6.30 am when his vehicle overturned.
She says it is alleged that he tried to change lanes when he lost control of the car.
His passenger died on impact.
The 37-year-old woman's name has not yet been released as her next of kin must still be informed.
The 30-year-old driver is currently in hospital.
