Pandemonium erupted in the Port Elizabeth high court on Tuesday when a man was found guilty of murder in a gang-related shooting.
Families of the victim and the accused burst into tears when judge Phakamisa Tshiki rendered the guilty verdict on 32 year old Jermaine Baadtjies for shooting Angelo Hendricks in Helenvale in 2009.
Relatives also went at each other in the court passages forcing police to step in and eject them from the courthouse before closing the gates until calm was restored.
Justice Tshiki also found Baadtjies guilty of attempted murder and the illegal posession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Sentencing proceedings are underway with the police's Tactical Response Team called in to keep the peace.
