'Panayiotou middleman' wants State Prosecutor to recuse himself

The Self confessed middleman in the Panayiotou murder wants the State Prosecutor Marius Stander to recuse himself.

Luthando Siyoni's lawyer Zolile Ngqeza brought an application in the Magistrates Court in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, where Siyoni was due to apply for bail.

Advocate Marius Stander was the prosecutor in the Panayiotou murder trial and successfully prosecuted Jayde's husband Christopher who was sentenced to life behind bars for his role in the crime.

Stander knows Siyoni well as he was a Section 204 Witness, who regularly consulted with the State. Siyoni, however, did an about turn on the stand and Stander asked Court to declare him a hostile witness. Magistrate Thandeka Mashiyi told Nqgqeza that if he wanted Stander to recuse himself he would have to petition the National Prosecuting Authority.

Siyoni lost his immunity for prosecution in the trial and evaded police for nearly six months.

The Hawks finally arrested him on the 9th of May at his home in Kwazhekhele.

The case was postponed to Wednesday when the bail hearing is expected to continue.
