PAC student wing wins SRC elections at Fort Hare's EL campus

The PAC's student wing PASMA has won the University of Fort Hare's East London campus following Wednesday's SRC elections.

Pasma chairperson, Zukisani Nyewe, says students were tired of the same leadership from DASO and Sasco although Sasco now governs the overall institutional SRC.

Nyewe said they were, in part, assisted by the ANC Youth League which was removed from the ballot paper on orders of the national body.

Nyewe said the PAC-led SRC at the East London campus will ensure that there's "accountability and transparency" from Pasma members.  He students can "anticipate radical change from the Pasma leadership".

The PAC's national office has meanwhile congratulated its student body.

In a statement Thursday the PAC said the campus victory motivates the party as it prepares for the 2019 general election.

"We will ensure that we dramatically improve our results with the once glorious governing party is eating itself, the PAC becomes the only alternative. We have never been opposition but an alternative of African people," the party's Kenneth Mokgatlhe.

"You truly have made Prof. Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe very proud. Your victory is very critical to the PAC because we are in a biggest campaign of renaming Fort Hare after Robert Sobukwe, first SRC president of that historic institution," he said.
