Owner of Coke's tavern in GQ found shot dead in vehicle

A Gqeberha tavern owner was shot dead and two others injured following a shooting incident in Kwazakhele on Friday night.

Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says local police on patrol noticed a Toyota Quantum minibus with bullet holes on the corners of Daku and Salumtu Street and stopped to investigate.

She says they discovered the body of 53-year-old Philasande Jakavula from Blue Water Bay, who is the owner of Coke's Tavern in Motherwell.

Janse van Rensburg says his body was found in the driver seat while a woman, who also sustained gunshot wounds, was found lying next to the Quantum.

She says it is further alleged that another man was shot and the injured were taken to hospital.

The motive for the shooting is not yet clear but the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Gqeberha is investigating the matter.
