The spotlight will fall on the Oudtshoorn Council this week where a special meeting has been called to deal with in-fighting that has hamstrung the functioning of the Council.
The Minister of Local Government and Traditonal Affairs, Pravin Gordhan, recently wrote to Oudtshoorn mayor, Gordon April, to express his concern with the state of affairs.
Problems identified by local leaders in the area include political instability, poor communication, non-functioning board structures and a complete breakdown of decent service delivery.
At Thursday's meeting a plan of action proposed earlier by Minister Gordhan will apparently be considered.
The Oudtshoorn Council has been beset by court battles last year and the refusal of the ANC to vacate office after narrowly to a DA-led coalition with Cope.
DA Western Cape leader, Patricia de Lille, had also written to ANC President Jacob Zuma, calling on him to instruct ANC councillors to vacate offices in the Oudtshoorn Municipality.
