Opposition slates intervention team at council meeting

Opposition parties in Nelson Mandela Bay today slated the performance of the intervention team sent to address administrative challenges plaguing the municipality.

Earlier this month Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, introduced the last four members of the team appointed in terms of Section 154 of the Constitution.

However, at a full council meeting on Thursday opposition parties accused the MEC of trying to colonise the Metro.

They said no diagnostic report was presented to council to motivate the need for sending a team of general managers.

DA caucus leader, Leon de Villiers, also weighed in, saying that if the Section 154 intervention team was the hotshot team they were said to be they would not still be here a year after being brought in
