Opposition parties say they will be asking Correctional Services Minister, Sibusiso Ndebele, parliamentary questions about reports that parolee, Jackie Selebi, has been seen shopping in Pretoria.
DA MP, James Selfe, says Selebi was released on medical parole last year based on the fact that he had a terminal medical condition which had reached an irreversible state.
He says if Selebi has made a miraculous recovery from his illness or has not been adhering to all his parole conditions, the decision to release him could potentially be reviewed.
The Freedom Front Plus says medical parole is being used as a political instrument to get loyal ANC supporters out of jail.
MP, Pieter Groenewald, says Selebi is now the third case, apart from Schabir Shaik and Tony Yengeni, who as ANC members, have received special preference with medical parole.
He says this is in contrast to Derby-Lewis who he says is actually really ill and is suffering from cancer, but has not been granted medical parole.
But, the Department of Correctional Services says, Selebi had not breached any of his parole conditions.
Chief deputy commissioner, Teboho Mokoena, says since Selebi's release on parole on July 20th last year there's not been a single report of any violation of his parole conditions.
"The single question we have to ask ourselves is whether Mr Selebi has violated any of his parole conditions and the response that we have we wish to place on record as a department is that Mr Selebi did not violate his parole conditions in fact over weekends in terms of his parole he is allowed to be outside his home between 9 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon" Mokoena said.
