Eastern Cape Safety and Liaison MEC Weziwe Tikana is leading a special operation on stray animals on the R61-road in the former Transkei on Thursday.
The operation will be over a sizeable stretch of the road - from Covinvaba to Mthatha.
Her office says all animals will be taken to pounds with the assistance of traffic officers with stray animal trucks, road rangers and the SPCA.
Tikana's drive follows Wednesday's strongly-worded statement by Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane.
He lashed out at owners of livestock and other animals who allowed it to stray on to busy main roads, adding that it sometimes causes fatal accidents.
