Several suspects, some linked to gang-related activities in Port Elizabeth's northern areas, are behind bars.
They were arrested in the past 24 hours in Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale as part of the police's Operation Lockdown.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said Friday that a 38-year-old man was arrested on a charge of murder.
She said he is the third suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Ferdinand Geysman in December last year.
Meanwhile, Janse Van Rensburg said "an additional four suspects were arrested on charges of possession of drugs, and the police members confiscated dagga, mandrax tablets and tik."
"One suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition; a 9mm pistol, with ammunition, was seized. This firearm was reported stolen at Gelvandale during July 2015. They also arrested one suspect for being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, the vehicle was stolen earlier this month in Bethelsdorp."
All arrested persons are expected to appear in court soon.
Janse Van Rensburg said the communities of Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp areas have been very co-operative and have been instrumental in providing anonymous 'tip offs' to the police.
'The police would like to encourage them to continue to do so. Information may be reported anonymously on 08600 10111 or to Colonel Malizo Ralane on 082 442 1663.
All information reported to police will be treated as strictly confidential. Be the eyes and ears of the police and together we can make our communities safer."
