The Eastern Cape Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has placed a ban on open fires until the end of October.
The areas affected by the ban are Buffalo City, Amathole, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi, Alfred Nzo and OR Tambo.
The Department says exceptions will only be allowed with special permission from the fire chief of the local or district municipality or the fire protection officer in those areas.
The National Veld and Forestry Act places an onus on landowners to take precautions against fires spreading.
