The Eastern Cape Transport Department said 18 Driving License and Testing Centres, as well as 37 Registering Authorities have been cleared to reopen under Level 3 lockdown.
MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe, said the Department inspected these centres in 22 municipalities including the two Metropolitan Municipalities as well as 41 registration authorities.
She said only 18 license and testing centres and 37, Post Offices were certified ready to resume services on 1 June.
“The other centres will be re-assessed later in the month and resume services thereafter,” the MEC said.
Tikana-Gxothiwe said that this followed the announcement by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula earlier this month that these centres should resume their work under strict regulations in relations to lockdown and guidelines from the Department of Labour and Employment.
