At least one person was killed after severe storms hit the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape on Wednesday night.
Preliminary reports from disaster teams indicate that people were also injured, and homes and infrastructure damaged, when heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds and hail hit the Mount Frere and Mount Ayliff areas on Wednesday night - leaving a trail of destruction along the way.
Spokesperson for the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Ndabuko Masumpa says disaster and emergency teams have been dispatched to places like Rhodes and Mandileni, where the fatality occurred.
Masumpa says additional teams will to be deployed to affected areas this morning to assess and assist affected households.
