A 33-year-old man died in hospital after a gunman opened fire on two people in Gelvandale late on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, said the drama unfolded at around 5.30 when the lone gunman fired shots at two men standing on the corners of Zimdahl and Terreblanche Streets.
He said they fled into a nearby shop as the suspect continued to fire.
Beetge said two women bystanders, aged 22 and 8, who were inside the shop were wounded in the lower legs.
“All four victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment, and one of the males, 33-year-old Marshall Arends, passed away due to the severity of his injuries. The other male victim, 26 years old, also sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital,” Beetge said.
He said the suspect fled on foot and remains at large.
A case of murder and three cases of attempted murder are under investigation by Gelvandale SAPS.
