Two off-duty police officials arrested two suspects aged 28 and 31 years for possession of abalone worth more than R43 000.00 on N2 next to Chintsa on Thursday.
While the two police officials were off duty, they received information about a vehicle that is driving on N2 transporting abalone to East London.
They then put on their uniforms and placed themselves on duty, requesting assistance from the nearby farmers.
The officers off pulled off a vehicle near the Chintsa turn off, and upon searching it, found the poached abalone and diving suits.
“Police seized 187 abalone units, diving suits, and the vehicle as it was used in the commission of a crime.
“These suspects are due to appear at East London Magistrate court tomorrow (Friday),” said Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa.
