An off-duty policeman from Hofmeyr in the Eastern Cape has been shot and killed.
Police spokesperson, Captain Stefanie Smith, says the body of the 33-year-old Constable was found in a street in Zwide Extension in Hofmeyr in the early hours of Sunday morning.She said he had a gunshot wound to the head.
Smith says the policeman's service pistol was found about a metre from his body not far from his girlfriend's residence.No arrests have been made and the motive for the policeman's murder is not yet known.
Meanwhile an Eastern Cape man is due to appear in court this week for shooting two men to death and wounding a third.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the 40-year-old man handed himself over to Butterworth police in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He says it's alleged that the two victims had parked their car in the middle of the street when the alleged shooter asked them to move it.
Manatha says at this stage it's not clear what had transpired but the man pulled out a gun and opened fire.The man will be charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
