National Union of Metal workers embarked on marches country-wide on Wednesday to support the call for jobs for youths.
Led by NUMSA President, Andrew Chirwa, the march started at Nangoza Jeba Hall in New Brighton to Vuyisile Mini Square in front of city hall.
The union handed over a memorandum to the department of labour where some of the demands related to the immediate implementation of a national living wage and a basic income grant from the goverment.
Chirwa added that they are unhappy with the youth wage subsidy and that it was a system of slavery.
"It is nothing close to a solution in this country, this is a struggle for workers.Numsa and workers have decided that together with a broad coalition which we have called united front-between Numsa and other affiliates in Cosatu,we are not going to wait, when we can see that workers are under attack in this country. We are going to continue to champion a fight to defend workers." says Chirwa
