The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has saved a small sea turtle that appeared to have been injured on the main beach in Jeffreys Bay.
The NSRI was alerted at approximately 12:30 on Monday by Ettiene Venter of Jeffreys Bay Surf School.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says their team member Elaine Schmidt, who also has the local responsibility for assisting injured and distressed sea animals, collected the turtle which appeared to have an injured left hind leg.
Arrangements were made with Bay World in Port Elizabeth and the turtle was delivered on Tuesday morning.
Bay World staff is said to further care and rehabilitate the turtle which has since been named Sunny.
Most of the Loggerhead sea turtle's left hind leg is missing and it is estimated to be just a few weeks old.
