The pink rescue buoy which disappeared from The Point in Jeffreys Bay has been located and returned.
The National Sea Rescue Institute it follows investigations by volunteers, Atlas Security, SAPS, Kouga Traffic Department and a woman who shared the CCTV footage.
The NSRI says those responsible for removing it have been part of the effort to reinstall it.
The organisation says it has emerged that the owner of the vehicle seen in CCTV footage, was unaware that the people who used her car, were involved in the buoy's disappearance, which was widely shared on social media.
According to the NSRI, all parties involved have apologised and expressed remorse.
It has been agreed that a period of community service will follow under the guidance of the Authorities.
