Notice: Road closures for October on R-75 at Uitenhage and Desptach


Eastern Cape, 4 October 2017: The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify motorists of road closures that will take place on the National Route R75 on/off ramps between Despatch and Uitenhage from Thursday, 05 October 2017 to Saturday, 21 October 2017.

The resurfacing contract is continuing on the National Route R75 freeway from Despatch (km 12.6 road marker) to Uitenhage (km 29.1 road marker).

From Thursday, 05 October 2017 to Saturday, 07 October 2017 from 9am to 5pm daily, Botha Road westbound, on-ramp to the R75 southbound will be closed. Motorists may consider using the alternative route of travelling to Algoa Road, to Marconi Street, to Union Avenue, to R75 southbound. 

From Monday, 09 October 2017 to Wednesday, 11 October 2017 from 9am to 5pm daily, R75 southbound off-ramp, to Botha Road will be closed. Motorists may consider using the alternative route of travelling to the R75 off-ramp to Uitenhage Road, to Main Street, to Botha Road. 

From Thursday, 12 October 2017 to Saturday, 14 October 2017 from 9am to 5pm daily, Botha Road eastbound, on-ramp to the R75 southbound will be closed. Motorists may consider using the alternative route of travelling to Botha Road eastbound, to Botha Road westbound, to the R75 southbound. 

From Monday, 16 October 2017 to Wednesday, 18 October 2017 from 9am to 5pm daily, R75 northbound off-ramp, to Botha Road will be closed. Motorists may consider using the alternative route of travelling to the R75 northbound off-ramp to Union Avenue, to the R75 southbound, to the R75 southbound off-ramp to Botha Road. 

From Thursday, 19 October 2017 to Saturday, 21 October 2017 from 9am to 5pm daily, Botha Road eastbound and westbound, on-ramp to R75 northbound will be closed. Motorists may consider using the alternative route of travelling to Botha Road westbound, to Botha Road eastbound, to Algoa Road, to Marconi Street, to Union Avenue, to R75 northbound. 

“The road closures are necessary due to the constricted construction area that requires resurfacing. The area that requires resurfacing cannot accommodate both the construction plant and the travelling public, safely and therefore requires road closures,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region Manager.

Appropriate traffic accommodation and temporary road signage will be in place.
