The North End Cemetery in Nelson Mandela Bay has reached its full capacity and will thus be closed for burials.
Bereaved families will now have to use the 14 available alternative cemeteries, including Malabar, Motherwell and Forest Hill to bury loved ones.
The Metro currently has 36 operational cemeteries, while 24 others remain closed for burials, however, families can apply to re-open an existing grave to bury another person in the same gravesite.
Executive Mayor Nqaba Bhanga said the less than 50 available gravesites at the North End cemetery would now be reserved and strictly utilised for high profile community members.
There are still 8 438 gravesites available in Forest Hill, while the Motherwell Cemetery still has the most capacity available with 35 291 sites.
