EAST LONDON, October 29 (ANA) – No sign has been found of a man, believed to be from Mthatha, who went missing while swimming in the sea at Eastern Beach in East London in the Eastern Cape, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Sunday.
NSRI East London station commander Geoff McGregor said that at 6pm on Saturday, NSRI duty crew rescue swimmers, a police K9 search and rescue squad, and Bufallo City fire and rescue services responded to Eastern Beach following reports of a drowning in progress.
“On arrival on the scene an extensive sea and shoreline search has revealed no sign of a missing 31-year-old man, from Mthatha, who is believed to have been swept out to sea by rip currents and disappearing under water while swimming.”
A police dive unit would continue an ongoing search operation and police had opened an investigation into the incident, McGregor said.
