March 12 (ANA) – An extensive search for a man suspected to have been swept out to sea on a make-shift raft at Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape on Saturday morning has yielded no results, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
NSRI Port St Johns duty crew were activated at 10.40am following a report from the security at the Cape Hermes lighthouse at Port St Johns of a man being swept out to sea through the Mzimvubu River mouth on what appeared to be a make-shift raft, NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said.
Despite an extensive search no sign of the man had been found. Police were called to the scene and they were attempting to find people who may know who the man was. At this stage there were no reports of anyone missing. A police dive unit had been informed of the incident and the coastline would continue to be monitored.
“It is hoped that anyone who knows anything about this incident or who can identify the man who is suspected to be missing will report to the local police,” Lambinon said.
