Not hosting a rugby test match will have a significant influence on revenue generated by the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the 2014/15 financial year.
A report to the Budget Performance Monitoring Forum by Stadium Operator Access Management says, however, that revenue in the second quarter was substantially higher than projected as a result of the very successful IRB 7s tournament in December.
Metrominute reports that the Stadium Operator is also bullish about the prospects of the South African Rugby Union renewing the Metro’s right to host the tournament for another four years.
Cape Town has also put in a serious bid to host the South African leg of the HSBC Sevens World series for the next four year.
The announcement of the successful bidder is expected from the International Rugby Board in the near future.
