The Mandela Bay Development Agency has announced that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has decided that no award is going to be made at present with respect to a new Stadium Operator for the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The current stadium operator Access Management will continue to run the stadium until its six-month contract extension ends at the end of December.
The MBDA's Luvuyo Bangazi says Access Management along with Stadium Management SA, BM Machesa Construction, Three Towers Facilities Management and Masule Management Group, submitted proposals. "What is allowed for in terms of request for proposals is that the issuing party, which in this case is NMBDA, on behalf of the Mandela Bay Municipality who decided not to make an award. It is an avenue they have." he said.
Acting Municipal Manager Johann Mettler says the item will appear on the agenda of the next Mayoral Committee meeting this Wednesday.
He says a definite way forward on the matter should become clearer at that meeting, as the Metro still needs an operator for the stadium. "Formally we have always reserved our rights not to make an award firstly, but then substantively we also had a look at the figures and the amounts mentioned was just to high as we also have budgetary constraints" he said.
