A Student from Nelson Mandela University made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he was charged with murder.
The 23-year-old final year IT student Athenkosi Zenani was walking home on Sunday morning when he was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife.
Zenani was reportedly robbed of his cell phone but according to police he allegedly grabbed the knife from the suspect and fatally stabbed him.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the second suspect was later arrested by a private security guard on patrol.
The alleged robber did not appear in court with Zenani.
Magistrate Thuliswa Betela granted him bail of R500 on condition that he appears in court again on the 31st of January 2019.
Zenani, who stays in the Sanlam Student Village, is originally from East London and must stay at his parent's address during the University holiday.
This forms part of his bail conditions.
