The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University says they are reluctant to go ahead with the resumption of classes given their concerns for the safety of staff and students. The University had decided to resume operations on Friday in order to resume with classes on Monday.
NMMU wanted to ensure that the academic year can still be completed by the 30th of November.
The University said in a statement issued on Thursday that extending a shutdown beyond this point would negatively impact the academic performance of students and put at risk the ability to complete their studies.
NMMU says they will continue to follow all legitimate avenues at it's disposal to resolve the present situation.
