NMMU preparing for SRC elections

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is preparing for the Student Representative Council elections taking place on Wednesday.

Contesting the elections are the current SRC-led Democratic Alliance Student Organisation, the South African Student Congress and the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command.

Last year the voter turn-out increased to 30% from just over 22% in 2013.

Acting Deputy Director: Student Governance and Development at NMMU, Deidre Potgieter, said the percentage of participation by about 25 000 students at four of NMMU's five Nelson Mandela Bay campuses is expected to increase even more this year.

She says George Campus hosts its SRC election on a different date.

The voting stations will be open from 08:00 to 19:00, and are:
"    Admin Foyer, South Campus
"    Kraal, South Campus
"    Sweat Cell, South Campus
"    Building 35, South Campus

"    Coffee Shop, North Campus
"    Ziggys, North Campus
"    Oceana, Second Avenue Campus

Ballot counting will be done on 16 and 17 September after the voting stations are closed. Preliminary results will be announced immediately the counting has been done. If no objections are received within 24 hours after the results announcement, the results will be certified.
