The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Council has approved a review of its fireworks by-law and is also looking at the possibility of the banning of fireworks in certain areas.
Municipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron, says it was decided that a Task Team be established comprising members of the Safety and Security Committee, relevant officials from Legal Services and the Safety and Security Directorate.
Baron says the members of the Task Team will be selected by the Chairperson of Safety and Security Committee in consultation with the Executive Director, Shane Brown.
"The first duty of the newly established team will be to spearhead the implementation of a public participation process – to consult with all relevant role-players – in respect of a possible ban of fireworks in residential areas and public open spaces as well as the review of the Fireworks By-law," Baron said.
