Nelson Mandela Bay is one of the municipalities that will be targeted by the Technical Support Unit set up in the Office of Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle.
The other municipalities being targetted are Buffalo City Metro and King Sabata Dalinyebo Municipality.
Delivering his Policy Speech in the Bisho Legislature, Premier Masualle said what is envisaged is a “strategic intervention measure set up to speed up the turnaround” of the three municipalities.
He said the Strategic Plan for 2014 though to 2019 for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) points to the “rising level of discontent in communities” that sometimes is manifested in service delivery protests.
Two government departments, health and education, will be subjected to the same intervention.
